San Quentin's Death Row

Imprisonment is a concept society generally sees as  punishment for bad guys doing bad things, but many aren't aware of the conditions that exist within the walls of death row. We were given a rare glimpse of the exercise yard, where condemned inmates stood in separate cages; some pacing while others coordinated synchronized workouts. I came face-to-face with serial killers and smiled as they asked how my day was going, charmed by their demeanor while at the same time terrified of their kindness.
